A Spider-Girl for Halloween

Before I show you my outfit for Halloween; some facts about this festival and the dissemination of traditions on this day.

The word "Halloween" is the fusion of the phrase "All Hallow's Eve".

What is Halloween?
The origins of Halloween are ancient and it is assumed that they sink their roots in Celtic culture that celebrated October 31 as the end of the year. For the Celts, in fact, at the end of October, officially ending the hot season and started the season of darkness and cold. The work  in the fields was completed, it was time to secure crop and livestock and let go deserved celebrations.
Festivities were dedicated to "Samhain", the Lord of Death and the Prince of Darkness
The Celts believed that on the eve of every new year, Samhain called all the spirits of the dead. On this day all laws of space and time were suspended, as the veil that separated the world of the living from the dead became more subtle, allowing the souls of showing, communicating with the living and having fun behind them, making jokes and frightening with their appearances.

Perché si dice “Dolcetto o Scherzetto” a Halloween?
“Dolcetto o Scherzetto?”
Why do we say "Trick or Treat" on Halloween?
"Trick or Treat?"  Probably comes from the fact that the Celts were afraid of the jokes of the spirits, and so, to avoid being bothered during the night of 31 October, trying to keep them quiet with the groceries.

Why does we dress up with masks?
The habit of dressing up on Halloween is probably derived from the custom of wearing Celtic animal skins and monstrous masks in rituals of Samhain and Power of the Holy Fire, to scare the spirits and keep them away from the villages.

Why do we carve pumpkins at Halloween?
The pumpkin was carved montrous faces with a candle inside to keep away the dead, that wandering with their lanterns on the night of October 31 in search of humans to take in the realm of the dead, seeing the faces depicted in the scary pumpkins placed in front of the homes, they believed that in that place there were only other spirits.

Whiy this tradition is so popular?
Between 1845 and 1850, due to a disease that devastated the potato crop, the Irish emigrated to America, bringing with them their customs, including that one to celebrate Halloween.
In the US, Halloween has lost its religious meaning and ritual, and it became an opportunity to have fun and to organize parties. It seems that every year Americans spend millions of dollars on costumes, decorations to celebrate this anniversary.

Ed ora eccoci qua, pronti a festeggiare; Buon Halloween a tutti!!!!!
And now here we are, ready to celebrate; Happy Halloween!!!!!

Summer is a fantastic season, but let's not forget that also winter is pleacent; with its clear sky, the warmth and magic of a burning fairplace, sipping a glass of red wine.

These days, when it came the sudden cold, I guess the days in the warmth of our homes while we taste of roasted chestnuts.

Among other things, the chestnut is rich in vitamin B and phosphorus, it contributes to the maintenance of nervous balance, do not contain gluten (thus can be consumed by people with celiac disease), is highly digestible and is recommended in cases of anemia and loss of appetite.

Thinking about these days, how could we give up our beloved 'slippers'? Here we have all kinds: colorful, sponge, romantic, trendy, bizarre, ballet style and even for the more chilly..

Henri Cartier-Bresson all'Ara Pacis

From 26 September 2014 to 25 January 2015, the Ara Pacis Museum of Rome will host a retrospective exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson . Over 500 items including period photographs, drawings, paintings, films and manuscripts, his most famous images and those less known, and rare and unedited documents are brought together providing an in-depth picture of the extraordinary work of this great photographer and chronicler of our times

Compositional skill, extraordinary visual intuition, and the ability to seize upon the most fleeting but also most important moments, made Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908 – 2004) one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century. Throughout his career, while travelling the world and witnessing history’s greatest moments, Cartier-Bresson was always able to unite poetry with the power of documentation. From Surrealism to the Cold War, from the Spanish Civil War to the Second World War and Decolonization, Cartier-Bresson was one of the greatest chronicles of our history; the “eye of the century”, as he is rightly called.

The location is fabulous, but not so good for the show. The exhibition will travel the decades that have followed in the last century through the eyes of the photographer. Unfortunately, the organization was not up to the quality of the works. Too many works on display in a small space and with no evidence of a logical path.

Ecco alcune delle fotografie esposte
Here are some of the photographs on display

"The photographer (nerver mind if he appears badly brought up) has to take life by surpirese, as soon as he opens his eyes. He needs to be on the alert, stalk his prey, foresee what is going to happen and once it is there within his reach, curl up into a ball to pounce even more effectively."
Bruxelles, 1932
Dietro la stazione di Saint-Lazare, Parigi, 1932

Firenze, 1933

"Photagraphy implies the recognition of a rhythm in the world of real things. What the eyes does is to find and focus on the particular subject within the mass of reality; what the camera does is simply to register upon film the decision made by the eye."
Livorno, 1932

Città del Messico, 1934

Jean-Paul -Sartre, 1946

Nudo, Italia, 1933

Madrid, 1933
Alberto Giacometti, 1961

A. Giacometti, Rue D'Alésia 1961

Sifnos, Grecia, 1961

L'Aquila, 1952

Brie, Francia, giugno 1968

Cremazione di Gandhi, India, 1947

Raduno, Parigi, 1954
"The photos take me, not the other way round."
Istanbul,1965

Newcastle-on-Tyne, Inghilterra, 1978
Simiane-la-Rotonde, Francia, 1970

Centro spaziale J.F. Kenned, Florida, U.S.A., 1967

and finally, a subject never to be forgotten ....

"In Mexico in 1934, I had a stroke of luck. I just needed to push open a door. Two lesbians were making love. It was so incredibly voluptuous and sensual... I couldn't see theri faces. I pushed the shutter. It was a miracle to have been given this opportunity. There is nothing obscene about it. It is the sheer fulfilment of physical love. I would never have succeeded in getting them to pose."
